This year’s Festival of Speed (July 11 to 13, 2008) will mark the long anticipated debut of Audi Tradition’s authentic reconstruction of the original “Silver Arrow” from 1939. The 150,000 strong crowd will see this piece of automotive history piloted up the hill by Nick Mason, Pink Floyd drummer and renowned car collector.
The Type D was painstakingly constructed over a four year period entirely in England by the specialist workshop Crosthwaite & Gardiner of East Sussex, who drew on 30 years of experience in reconstructing Auto Union “Silver Arrows”. The bodywork was built by Roach Manufacturing (of Southampton) with only a handful of archive photos as a guide.
Octane had the privilege of being present for the Type D’s first test – check out this month’s issue for the full story of this amazing machine.
