Worldwide Auctioneers to sell James Cagney Auburn

James Cagney Auburn V12 Cabriolet

Worldwide Auctioneers are looking to return some great classic cars to their routes with their inaugural Auburn Auction. The 1934 Auburn V12 Salon Cabriolet used in the movie “The Mayor of Hell’ and owned by famous actor James Cagney, will be a highlight of the 30 August sale.

Auburn is where the Movie Stars came to buy the most prestigious cars in America”, said Managing Partner John Kruse. “I am thrilled to have one of the most important motorcars produced by The Auburn Automobile Company back in Auburn, Indiana to be sold at our auction.

Screen legend and Oscar winning actor James Cagney’s association with this car makes it only fitting”. Many notable consignments for the event, to be presented on Saturday August 30th at the company’s new US headquarters, now under construction in Auburn, Indiana, include examples of some of the world’s finest automobiles.

Collectors will be given the opportunity to bid for a selection of America’s grandest pre-war classics including two Duesenbergs; one a 1933 Duesenberg SJ Speedster, being one of only 36 factory supercharged examples ever built and the other a stunning 1929 Duesenberg J Derham Convertible Coupe. Other significant classics include a 1933 Pierce Arrow Model 1247 Convertible Sedan by LeBaron, one of only four produced and a pristine 1930 Cadillac V16 All Weather Phaeton. Two superb Rolls Royce head the selection of fine European motorcars also crossing the stage, including a 1935 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Drop Head Coupe with coachwork by All Weather Motor Bodies, one of only two ever produced and a stately 1911 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Roi-des-Belges Tourer, offered for sale without reserve. Joining them is a wonderful 1935 Delage D8-85 Clabot Roadster, one of an exclusive six ever produced, elegant 1953 Aston Martin DB2 Prototype and massive 1927 Minerva Berline Limousine.

Rod Egan, Managing Partner and Chief Auctioneer said. “These were the truly exceptional automobiles of their era, with all the status and exclusivity that made them the natural choice of the rich and the famous. They are today, a collectors dream. We are both privileged and excited to be given the opportunity to present them for sale in Auburn”. The Auburn Auction is limited to only 80 exclusive and significant motorcars.

The sale will take place over Labor Day Weekend on Saturday August 30th at 6pm, as Auburn coincidentally plays host to the celebrated Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival, which has for decades attracted enthusiasts from across the US and overseas. General auction preview is on Friday August 29th from 10am-5pm, with VIP Reception that evening from 7pm-9pm.
