Bonhams has
sold the 1989 ex-Le Mans Sauber C9 Group C racer for over £1 million after a
month of private negotiations.
Originally
scheduled for sale at Retromobile, the car failed to meet its undisclosed
reserve. Bidding reached 1,250,000 Euros which was still shy of the reserve.
The top
auction house then entered negotiations with potential buyers and sold the car
to an (again undisclosed) collector and racer.
The Sauber
should be participating at Spa in May and in the 2008 Le Mans support race.
