Two Ford Sierra RS500 Cosworths with direct links to touring car legend Andy Rouse are set to lead at Iconic Auctioneers’ competition car sale on 22 August, taking place during the 2025 Silverstone Festival. The pair represent two distinct chapters in Rouse’s BTCC career.

The headliner is Rouse’s final Group A touring car, an RS500 that contested the 1990 BTCC season. Built and run by Andy Rouse Engineering, the car took four race victories and six podiums before being retired from competition at the end of that year. It remains in remarkable ‘time-capsule’ condition, having not been used in anger since – except for a brief demonstration at Goodwood in 2001. Still wearing its period paint, decals and safety gear, the car offers an unusual opportunity to acquire a well-preserved and unmodified examples. It is estimated at £250,000-£300,000.

Joining it is an earlier RS500 from 1988, campaigned by Rouse’s Kaliber Racing outfit and driven primarily by teammate Guy Edwards. The car contributed to nine Group A wins that season, with Edwards taking four podiums in this chassis. It later competed in the Asia-Pacific region, where it was further developed under the guidance of Peter Brock. Subject to a full rebuild in 2017 and now fitted with a top-tier Harvey Gibbs engine, the car is described as ‘on the button and ready to race’. It carries a guide of £180,000-£220,000.

These two RS500s bookend the peak years of Sierra supremacy in the BTCC and are closely tied to Rouse himself, who claimed 60 touring car victories and four British titles during a career that helped define the Group A era. While many of the original RS500 racers were updated, repainted or lost to time, these examples stand out for their provenance and completeness – particularly the 1990 car, which has effectively been untouched since its final competitive outing.

One other particularly interesting entry is the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze WTCC, raced by Rob Huff during his near-title-winning campaign, and by Alain Menu the following year. Offered direct from RML Group, it is estimated at £65,000-£75,000.

The competition car sale forms part of a broader auction schedule across the Silverstone Festival weekend, including motorcycle, collectors’ car and automobilia sales. Take a look at the full catalogue at iconicauctioneers.com
