AC Cars has announced that it will introduce a new engine and gearbox package for the 2026 Cobra GT lineup. Although specific details are vague at this point, the company says that it will be a high-performance 2.0-litre engine, serving as the entry point to the range, designed to complement the V8-powered variants.
The new engine option, said to be developed in collaboration with a ‘leading powertrain specialist’, will deliver up to 390bhp in its most powerful tune. This marks a departure from the V8 engines that currently define the Cobra GT range, offering a lighter, more agile alternative while maintaining a decent level of performance. Enhancements to the aluminium chassis and increased use of carbon fibre further reduce weight.

The 2.0-litre unit will be paired with a choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or a newly introduced dual-clutch transmission, designed to maximize the engine’s responsiveness. David Conza, CEO of AC Cars, commented: ‘This is a key step in our growth strategy, allowing us to offer clients a broader range of performance options while staying true to the characteristics that define us. The introduction of smaller, high-performance engines broadens the appeal of the Cobra GT range, particularly in markets with heavy taxation on large-displacement engines.’
Reservations for the Cobra GT Roadster and GT Coupe are now open. Prices start from £235,000, with full specifications and powertrain details to be announced in spring 2025.
