Twelve years after the Caterham Formula 1 team made its final appearance at the 2014 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the British manufacturer is back in the paddock to reveal a limited edition version of its perennial Seven sports car.
Called the Miami Special Edition, Caterham’s latest creation is a track-only Seven of which, perhaps coincidentally, just 12 examples will be built. It will make its public debut on Race Street at the Miami International Autodrome ahead of the Miami Grand Prix.

The Miami Special Edition is set apart by bespoke Aqua paintwork contrasted by Vibrant Pink and White decals – hues that are synonymous with The Magic City. ‘Miami’ script and a silhouette of the Grand Prix circuit decorate the Seven’s rear.
Inside, the Miami script is embroidered on the headrests and each example carries an individual numbered plaque on the dashboard. A second plaque in the engine bay is engraved with the names and signatures of the engineers who built the car at Caterham’s Dartford HQ.

The Miami Special Edition is powered by the same 2.0-litre naturally aspirated Ford Duratec engine found in the Caterham Seven 420R. It sends 210bhp to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission and delivers a 0-60mph time of 3.8 seconds. With a kerbweight of just 560kg, the car boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 375bhp per tonne – the same as a 2017 McLaren 570S.
‘Miami has become a global hub for elite motorsport and luxury automotive culture,’ said Caterham’s senior vice president of operations Trevor Steel. ‘This car represents the very best of lightweight British engineering, and seeing it on display at the race weekend will be a significant moment for our brand.’

Ten of the 12 examples will be available to purchase through Caterham’s US dealer network following the Grand Prix weekend, with prices available on application.
