California-based restomod specialist Singer Vehicle Design has unveiled the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet Reimagined by Singer, its latest reinterpretation of the 964-generation 911.

Limited to 75 commissions, the Carrera Cabriolet draws inspiration from the rare wide-body Carrera Cabriolet of the 1980s, which adopted the flared arches of the Porsche 930 Turbo. The open-top model follows the Carrera Coupé Singer revealed in 2025.

The reimagined Carrera Cabriolet’s power comes from the same 4.0-litre flat-six as its Coupé sibling. Based on an original Type 964 flat-six and developed with Cosworth, the naturally aspirated engine develops 420bhp and revs to 8000rpm. The engine was built from Singer’s DLS programme learnings and features water-cooled four-valve cylinder heads with air-cooled cylinders and variable valve timing.

‘By the mid-1980s, the personalisation Porsche first offered for the Carrera Coupé had reached the Carrera Cabriolet, which could be ordered with the wider body of the 911 Turbo,’ said Singer founder and creative director Rob Dickinson. ‘Our services reference this car and celebrate another chapter in the evolution of the 911, with the ultimate, open-roof, naturally aspirated G-model 911 reimagined for the 21st century.’

All Carrera Cabriolets reimagined by Singer begin life as 964-gen donor cars. The build begins with complete disassembly until the 964’s steel chassis is revealed. Singer then assesses the chassis before it is cleaned, restored and strengthened using composite materials and steel.

The chassis is clothed in lightweight carbonfibre bodywork inspired by the wide-bodied Turbo-look cars of the 1980s. Singer has also developed a lightened ‘Z-pattern’ folding roof mechanism that preserves the car’s clean lines whether raised or lowered.

A front spoiler improves cooling and manages airflow over the nose, while intakes on each flank feed the flat-six. Owners can specify either the classic whale-tail spoiler or a speed-activated rear wing, as well as auxiliary front pop-up headlights.

Agility and handling are provided by four-way adjustable dampers with electronic damping control that can be adjusted from the cabin. Complementing the suspension are optional carbon ceramic brakes and 18-inch centre-lock wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport rubber.

Five drive modes – Road, Sport, Track, Off and Weather – progressively adjust traction and electronic stability control thresholds, broadening the Carrera Cabriolet’s performance envelope while maintaining accessibility.

Singer has paid just as much attention to the interior. While all 75 cars will be entirely bespoke, they all feature hand-built gauges and ‘traditional leatherworking’, alongside discreet satellite navigation and phone connectivity features.

‘Porsche offered drivers a wide-bodied, naturally aspirated 911 Carrera Cabriolet in the 1980s. It was a rare car that included uprated brakes and suspension along with its dramatic appearance, and you could order it with or without the famous whale-tail rear spoiler. We’ve used this as inspiration for our latest services, which bring together a very special naturally aspirated flat-six with the driving dynamics and standards of execution Singer is known for,’ said Singer chief strategy officer Mazen Fawaz.
