Leading motoring model maker Amalgam Collection has revealed the McLaren W1 hypercar as its latest 1:8 scale handcrafted work of art.
The Bristol-based company’s models are renowned for their exquisite detail and the 57cm-long replica of McLaren’s £2m mid-engined flagship is no exception.
Developed over 3000 hours from McLaren’s original CAD data, each Amalgam W1 requires a further 300 hours to assemble. The detailing is extraordinary, faithfully replicating the materials of the full-size car and finished in the exact factory paint codes. The model’s pièce de résistance is the functional scissor doors and active rear wing, which can be raised and retracted by remote control.

The McLaren W1 continues Woking’s lineage of flagship hypercars that began with the Gordon Murray-engineered F1 in 1992 and the P1 in 2013. Amalgam founder Sandy Copeland reports that his company’s 1:8 scale models of these cars have only increased as their value has climbed.
‘Both the P1 and F1 have become great investments for collectors, and what we are finding is that having an exact 1:8 scale model which replicates the car becomes part of that car’s history,’ Copeland said. ‘In recent times, Amalgam models are becoming alternative investments for collectors of cars and artwork due to them holding their value.’
Amalgam’s 1:8-scale W1 will be offered in two flavours: Launch Specification, replicating the Papaya Spark-finished car unveiled in October 2024 (pictured), and Bespoke, commissioned from McLaren build sheets to mirror an individual owner’s exact configuration. Limited to 199 examples, Launch Specification models are priced at £14,995, while Bespoke commissions start from £20,995.

The order book is open for both specifications. Head to www.amalgamcollection.com for more.
