A man has been killed during the fifth Normandy Beach Race in Ouistreham, France, on Sunday morning, 21 September 2025.
The victim was 54-year-old Marc Félix, one of the event’s organisers. He suffered fatal injuries when his Ford Model A race car rolled during a demonstration run. Reports say that the car skidded, rolled several times and came to rest on its side. The driver of the car wallked away with minor injuries, but Félix – who was passengering in the car – sadly died, despite the swift intervention of emergency services.
‘There was an accident during a vehicle demonstration with two cars racing one against the other,’ an event spokesperson told regional media. ‘We don’t really know what happened, but one of the cars skidded and rolled over.’
Emergency crews, including gendarmes, firefighters and paramedics, rushed to the beach shortly before 11am. A psychological support unit was also deployed to assist around 30 distressed spectators.
Police subsequently ordered the evacuation of around 15,000 spectators. The remainder of the event was cancelled and an investigation has been opened by the gendarmerie to determine the circumstances of the crash.
Organisers are yet to confirm whether the 2026 running will go ahead.
