DS N°8 signals the next generation of French luxury

Large French luxurious cars are a rarified breed in this day and age, which is why the launch of a new one is always cause for celebration. DS Automobiles has unveiled its latest creation, the DS N°8, which seems to blend a sharp saloon style with SUV stance slated to launch in spring 2025.

The DS N°8 will be available with three distinct powertrains. The entry-level model features a 74 kWh battery and front-wheel drive, delivering 230 bhp, with an additional 30 bhp boost available during acceleration. This setup provides a competitive WLTP-certified range of up to 357 miles. For drivers seeking even greater range – which is most – a 97.2 kWh battery version extends the vehicle’s reach to 469 miles. The range-topping dual-motor variant produces 350bhp, enabling the crossover to sprint from 0-62 mph in just 5.4 seconds while offering a range of approximately 429 miles.

Externally, the DS N°8 takes a design approach that bridges the aesthetics of an SUV and a traditional fastback or even saloon – although it’s definitely just a traditional five-door hatchback. The front ‘grille’, illuminated on top-spec models, is complemented by sleek LED headlights, while the rear is defined by a sculpted tailgate that integrates seamlessly with the overall design.

The interior reflects an evolution of DS’s luxury-themed styling. Premium Nappa leather upholsters the seats, showcasing the brand’s signature ‘watchstrap’ pattern and ‘Point Perle’ stitching. Just as other DS models, the seats feature heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Ambient lighting enhances the cabin’s serene atmosphere, while the new X-shaped steering wheel introduces a new family style for the brand that will carry over to future models.

Technology plays a central role in the DS N°8, with advanced soundproofing to ensure a tranquil driving experience. The MyDS app brings a host of practical features, allowing owners to monitor battery levels, pre-condition the interior, and schedule charging remotely. Perhaps most important to anyone seeking a French luxury car experience will be the DS Active Scan Suspension, which uses cameras to scan the road ahead to prime the car for optimal comfort.
