Broad Arrow Auctions marked its European debut with a €31.17m total at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, led by a record-breaking sale for one of Ferrari’s earliest and most significant models – the 1948 Ferrari 166 Spyder Corsa by Ansaloni. It sold for €7,543,750 – setting a new auction world record for the model.

The sale on 24-25 May was held in the Rotunda at Villa Erba, presenting more than 70 cars, motorcycles and even boats to an international audience. With 78% of lots sold – several of which were post-sale deals. The ex-Mille Miglia 166 Spyder Corsa – thought to be the most original extant – had never before been publicly offered. Delivered new to one of Enzo Ferrari’s earliest customers

A second standout was the 2003 Honda NSX-R. With just 15,800km on the clock, the lightweight JDM performance car achieved a record-breaking €934,375. It reflects a broader rise in appreciation for homologation-era Japanese performance models.

Other modern highlights included a 1989 Ferrari F40 Competizione, which sold for €2,312,500, and a 2023 Ford GT at €613,750. A 1954 Siata 208S Motto Spider, the last of its kind, made €1.75m, while a 1965 Ferrari 275 GTS achieved €1.525m.

Although largely a success, some notable no-sale cars include the 1949 Talbot-Lago T26 Grand Sport Coupe by Dubos Frères (as we previewed here), 2022 Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4, 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing and 1990 Citroën ZX Rallye Raid (also previewed here).

Broad Arrow also hosted a BMW-only evening sale, fitting as BMW AG, was event co-host and official partner of the Concorso. The star was a 1980 BMW M1 upgraded to Procar specification, which fetched €602,500.

Classic motorcycles also featured, including a 1990 Ducati 851 F90 Corsa owned but never ridden by John Surtees, which sold for €81,250.
