Gooding Christie’s has announced two key senior appointments as it accelerates its expansion across the UK and European collector car markets. The move comes ahead of the auction house’s first European sale as the official auction partner of Rétromobile in Paris on 29 January 2026.

Former RM Sotheby’s executive Oliver Camelin has been appointed Managing Director, EMEA, while long-time Bonhams specialist James Knight joins as Consultant (Senior Specialist). Based in Geneva and London respectively, both will work closely with the firm’s existing European team, including Ben Willis in the UK and Mathieu Heurtault in France.

Camelin brings extensive experience from RM Sotheby’s, where he oversaw sales in Switzerland and headed private sales across Europe. His background includes managing significant consignments and single-owner collections, alongside judging roles at events such as Passione Engadina. ‘My focus will be on nurturing long-term client relationships and bringing a measured, service-driven approach across Europe, the Middle East and Africa,’ he said.

Knight is one of the most respected figures in the auction world, having spent over 40 years in the industry. Starting at Christie’s in 1982, he co-founded Brooks Auctioneers with Robert Brooks, later merging with Bonhams, where he became Group Motoring Chairman. Known for handling landmark sales such as Rosso Bianco and the Den Hartogh Collection, Knight now returns to the Christie’s sphere after several years running his own consultancy.

President David Gooding described the appointments as ‘another important milestone in our sustained global expansion’.

Gooding Christie’s is now calling for consignments for its Rétromobile Paris and Amelia Island 2026 auctions, with early highlights including a 1958 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider with covered headlights.
