Jensen International Automotive, a UK-based company known for the restoration and re-engineering of the classic Jensen Interceptor, has revealed plans for a new, ultra-high-performance V8 grand tourer known simply as the GT. Although inspired by the original Jensen Interceptor launched 60 years ago, the new model will be entirely new from the ground up.
The teaser image above shows the silhouette of the planned model, which is said to be built around a bespoke aluminium chassis and powered by a ‘bespoke’ V8 engine. Details are minimal right now, but the company says that the GT will be ‘fully analogue’ and hand-built in limited numbers for the UK market.
Banbury-based JIA is best known for its Interceptor R programme, re-engineering and restoring classic Interceptors with modern drivetrains. The new GT, however, marks a complete departure, which will require a dedicated in-house team to lead its development. JIA is keen to stress that the project is neither a restomod or a continuation – but a completely new vehicle inspired by the spirit of its 1960s namesake.
‘Taking the theme of the luxury British GT to fresh, thoroughly modern heights, JIA’s first car is designed and engineered from the ground up to deliver an unmatched, deeply immersive, V8-powered driving experience,’ said JIA managing director David Duerden.
While details of the car’s styling, performance and price remain under wraps, the launch confirms JIA’s ambitions to evolve from a heritage specialist to a niche British sports car manufacturer. Production will be strictly limited and built to order in the UK
