Lamborghini V12 ‘Camel Collection’ comes to market

Words: Elliott Hughes

The Camel Collection – comprising a 1985 Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV and a 1990 Lotus Type 102 Formula 1 car – is being offered by Ashford-based dealer Furlonger Specialist Cars.

Driven in period by Martin Donnelly, Derek Warwick and Johnny Herbert, Type 102 chassis 02 is powered by a 640bhp 3.5-litre Lamborghini V12, making it the only Lotus Grand Prix car to feature a 12-cylinder engine.

The Camel-liveried F1 car contested 37 Grands Prix across three seasons before retiring from period competition and passing into private ownership, where it remained in a single collection for decades. More recently, chassis 02 underwent a full mechanical overhaul by Lamborghini’s Polo Storico division. Further enhancing its provenance is a cameo appearance in the 2025 Hollywood film F1: The Movie, in which it was driven on screen by Brad Pitt in the role of Sonny Hayes.

Sold alongside the Type 102 is a 1985 Lamborghini Countach 5000 QV finished in matching (non-original) Camel livery. Chassis FLA12848 is believed to be the only right-hand-drive 5000 QV delivered from the factory in Giallo. Held by a single owner from 1995, it spent much of the mid-2000s in storage before being recently acquired by Furlonger Specialist Cars. Chassis FLA12848 was then recommissioned and had its Giallo paintwork refreshed.

Before entering 30 years of single ownership, the one-of-a-kind V12-powered supercar was featured in the May 1987 issue of Autocar, where it was tested against a Yamaha FZR 1000 superbike by Howard Lees. It also appeared in the 1993 book Lamborghini Countach by Chris Bennet.

After the refresh, the Countach had Camel decals applied to match the Type 102 and was fitted with black wheels. Furlonger says the car will be accompanied by its original wheels and the livery can be removed at the buyer’s request.
