Mansour Ojjeh’s McLaren collection offered by Tom Hartley Jnr

Words: Matthew Hayward

One of the most complete and significant McLaren road car collections in private hands – assembled by TAG Group CEO and long-time McLaren shareholder Mansour Ojjeh – is being offered for sale by high-end dealer Tom Hartley Jnr. The 20-car line-up includes a broad cross-section of McLaren Automotive models, each one personally specified by Ojjeh and in unused, factory-delivered condition.

Ojjeh, who died in 2021, played a key role in transforming McLaren into one of Formula 1’s most successful teams. He was instrumental in the creation of McLaren Automotive, and quickly set about building a definitive collection of its road cars – beginning with the final McLaren F1 to be produced. Finished in a unique colour inspired by Château d’Yquem dessert wine, McLaren subsequently renamed the shade ‘Mansour Orange’ in his honour.

From that benchmark, Ojjeh went on to acquire the last chassis of each subsequent model, working closely with the company to incorporate every technical update made during production. With the exception of his McLaren F1 – which has covered 1810km – and a P1 GTR occasionally used on track days, each car remains delivery mileage and maintained by the factory.

In addition to the F1 and P1 GTR, the collection includes the Speedtail, Senna, Elva, Sabre, and a number of limited-series and Longtail variants. The Sabre is one of only 16 ever built. The Elva, delivered posthumously, wears bespoke badging bearing Ojjeh’s crest rather than the usual McLaren emblems.

Tom Hartley Jnr, who earlier this year handled the £500m sale of Bernie Ecclestone’s Grand Prix car collection, said: ‘Being entrusted with the sale of Mansour Ojjeh’s McLaren collection is akin to handling Enzo Ferrari’s Ferraris or Ferdinand Porsche’s Porsches. We’re talking about one of the founding figures behind McLaren Automotive, a man who, together with Ron Dennis, helped build McLaren into one of the most respected and successful teams in Formula 1 history’

For Hartley, the standout car is the final McLaren F1: ‘For me, the highlight of the collection is, of course, the F1. It’s widely regarded as the greatest road car ever built, and this particular example is the very last one produced. It has only just over 1800km from new and comes directly from Mansour Ojjeh, who, alongside Bruce McLaren and Ron Dennis, was instrumental in shaping the history of the marque. I have no doubt this will fetch a world record price for the model when it’s sold.’
