Prodrive has announced a new three-year partnership with the British Motorsports Marshals Club (BMMC), underlining the vital contribution made by the volunteers who keep motorsport running safely at every level. The agreement will see the Banbury-based engineering and competition specialist support the BMMC, which represents more than 3000 marshals working across circuits, rally stages, hill climbs and sprint events throughout the UK.
The partnership is intended to help the organisation recruit, train and equip the next generation of marshals, ensuring the continued safe running of British motorsport. Although Formula 1 often dominates the headlines, every level of the sport depends on volunteer officials. Instantly recognisable in their orange overalls, marshals are responsible for everything from incident response and track safety to communication with race control, allowing events ranging from local club meetings to international championships to take place.
‘Motorsport simply wouldn’t happen without marshals,’ said Prodrive chairman David Richards. ‘They are the backbone of our sport, giving their time, commitment and passion to ensure events run safely and successfully.’
The partnership will be promoted under the banner of ‘British Racing Orange’, celebrating the colour most closely associated with the people who make the sport possible.
Richards added: ‘At motorsport events across the country, you are far more likely to see orange than green. That got us thinking about the colour most closely associated with British motorsport at every level – and the answer is the colour worn by the marshals who make our sport possible.’
BMMC chair Chris Hobson welcomed the collaboration, saying the additional support would help the organisation continue training marshals while encouraging new volunteers to become involved.
