It’s difficult to argue against the appeal of a genuine movie car, but it’s fair to say that more than a few eyebrows were raised as the Mazda RX-7 FD from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift sold for an astonishing £911,000 at Bonham’s Goodwood FoS sale this weekend. Originally estimated at £250,000-350,000, the RX-7’s final price set a new auction benchmark for the model, even outstripping the $550,000 figure achieved by the original film’s legendary Supra in 2021.

Bonhams achieved a strong total of £10.2 million for the sale – the highest UK car auction result so far in 2025. The top result came from a delivery-mileage 2023 Mercedes-AMG ONE, the first of the model sold at auction, which made £2,456,600. With a 1.6-litre V6 hybrid powertrain derived directly from Formula 1 and over 1000bhp, it remains the most complex and exclusive road car ever developed by Mercedes-AMG.

A world record price of £1,527,000 was achieved for a 2007 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Coupé. This Swiss-market example with just 770km on the clock was offered with no reserve, with an estimate of £500,000-800,000.
Another UK record was set for a registration number when ‘JB 1’, associated with Bentley dealer Jack Barclay, sold for £608,600.

Other sale highlights include a fully matching-numbers, US-market 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster (£866,200), a 1992 Jaguar XJ220 (£310,500), and a 1928 Bentley 4½-Litre Tourer (£304,750).
‘This outstanding result, achieving the highest sale total for a UK motoring auction this year, firmly reinforces Bonhams|Cars’ position as the market leader in the UK,’ said Tim Schofield, Senior Specialist and Head of Department. ‘The extraordinary results and global participation underscore the ongoing passion and appetite for exceptional motorcars.’
