A 1979 Ferrari 308 GTS that was driven by actor Tom Selleck in the pilot episode for the Magnum P.I. television series is being auctioned in Barrett-Jackson’s 2026 Palm Beach sale (16-18 April).

Chassis 28251 was one of 15 cars used during the filming of Magnum P.I. season one in Oahu, Hawaii, and is believed to have been driven across the US by the late political satirist PJ O’Rourke for a Car & Driver feature.

Originally finished in Giallo Fly, 28251 was repainted in Rosso Corsa with a black targa roof panel ahead of filming. Other modifications include the addition of a passenger-side wing mirror, a Bluetooth stereo and XDI electronic ignition. The seats were lowered at the time to accommodate Selleck’s 6ft 4in frame, though they have since been returned to a more standard configuration. The quad-exhaust system is protected by an aftermarket perforated metal shield.

This 308 last sold on Bring a Trailer in 2025 for $115,000 and was subsequently offered at a GAA Classic Cars sale in February this year, where it failed to sell after reaching a high bid of $120,000. Between the two auctions, the car’s original Nero leather seats and door cards appear to have been retrimmed in tan upholstery.

The car’s history has been documented by marque experts Marcel Massini and Matthias Urban, with documentation included in the sale. According to the auction listing, it has covered 93,000 miles from new.

It is being offered with no reserve. View the auction listing here.
