The opening Bicester Motion Scramble of 2026 is set to showcase a comprehensive selection of competition cars fielded by the UK’s legendary Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) outfit on Sunday 11 January.

Nearly 50 TWR machines will be gathered in Hangar 113 for the sold-out event, which marks 50 years since the famous Kidlington-based team was founded in 1976.

TWR’s early years preparing Renault 5s for the UK’s one-make series revealed little about how successful the outfit would become. From here, TWR rapidly rose through the ranks of international motorsport, with achievements including legendary victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1988 and 1990, and a brief foray into Formula 1.

Although Tom Walkinshaw passed away in 2010, his legacy lives on in the revived TWR name, now carried forward by his son Fergus with the V12-powered, Jaguar XJS-based Supercat restomod.

Bicester will honour the team’s achievements by bringing together four of its 24-hour race winners to headline the Hangar 113 display. Two of these machines – the Mazda RX-7 and Jaguar XJ-S triumphed at Spa in 1981 and ‘84, while the Jaguar XJR-9 and XJ220 crossed the line first at Le Mans before being disqualified.

Other highlights include two of TWR’s early machines – the 1977 BMW 530i in which Walkinshaw contested the British Saloon Car Championship, and the 1974 BMW 3.0 Si that served as the team’s BMW County Championship challenger.

The wider display will chart TWR’s progression from its Rover era, represented by rally and track versions of the SD1 Vitesse, before moving to the team’s dominant Jaguar years. Group C and IMSA endurance racers are promised, as well as machinery from the outfit’s 1990s Volvo programme.

Complementing the race cars will be examples of road-going projects shaped by TWR’s expertise, ranging from Alpina BMW conversions to the JaguarSport XJR-15, the Jaguar XJ220 supercar and mid-engined Renault Clio V6.

Visitors can also expect live stage interviews exploring the team’s history throughout the day, while more than 100 former TWR employees are set to reunite with the machines they once engineered.
