Lola Cars has unveiled the track-ready T70S and road-legal T70S GT, a limited-run revival of its celebrated 1960s sports-racer. The project combines period-correct engineering with modern manufacturing techniques – along with a strong emphasis on sustainability. Just 16 examples will be built.

First introduced in 1965, the original Lola T70 became one of the defining sports cars of its era, dominating the inaugural Can-Am championship in 1966 and securing notable victories including the 1969 Daytona 24 Hours. The new cars have been developed using archival drawings and detailed scans of original examples, with every component re-engineered to modern standards while remaining faithful to Eric Broadley’s original design.

The T70S is the more focused of the two, built around an aluminium monocoque chassis and powered by a 5.0-litre small-block Chevrolet V8 producing 530bhp. Lola claims a top speed of 203mph and a 0-60mph time of 2.5 seconds, with period-style suspension and transmission ensuring that the driving experience remains true to the original.

In line with expectations of a modern vehicle, T70S GT introduces modest concessions to usability, including revised ergonomics, climate control and even a modest storage, while retaining the same basic architecture. It is powered by a 6.2-litre V8 producing 500bhp and is supplied UK road-registered.

A key element of the project is the introduction of Lola’s Natural Composite System, a plant-based bodywork material combining natural fibres and a renewable resin derived from sugar cane waste. This forms part of a broader effort to reduce environmental impact, with Lola claiming a 54% reduction in CO₂ emissions compared with conventional manufacturing processes.

Despite this focus, Lola maintains that the T70S remains uncompromising in its commitment to driver engagement, preserving the direct, mechanical feel that defined the original.

Till Bechtolsheimer, Chairman, Lola Cars commented: ‘The T70 is not only one of Lola’s greatest designs, but one of the most iconic racing cars ever built. The T70S represents an entirely unique example of preserving motorsport heritage while advancing sustainable innovation; a car identical to the original fire-spitting, Steve McQueen-era, V8 monster, but refined with advanced manufacturing processes, sustainable materials and an unparalleled attention to detail.’
