Porsche has introduced the 911 GT3 S/C, a new open-top addition to its GT line-up that combines the 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six with a bespoke cabriolet body. Unlike the the previous Speedster model, this one has a proper electronic folding roof.
The S/C represents a notable shift in Porsche’s GT3 family, pairing the familiar 4.0-litre flat-six and short-ratio manual gearbox derived from the S/T with a conventional open roof, without resorting to the compromised limited-run Speedster formula. Producing 503bhp and 332lb ft, the engine revs to 9000rpm, as with the coupé.

Performance figures? Expect a 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 194mph. Crucially, Porsche has maintained a strong emphasis on keeping the weight down. At 1497kg, the S/C is only around 30kg heavier than the previous-generation 911 Speedster, despite the addition of a fully automatic roof. This has been achieved through extensive use of lightweight materials, including carbonfibre body panels, magnesium wheels and anti-roll bars, and a compact lithium-ion battery.
The roof itself is a key engineering feature, as the S/C adopts a fully automatic fabric roof with magnesium structural elements, allowing it to open or close in around 12 seconds at speeds of up to 31mph.

The chassis closely follows that of the 911 GT3 Touring, including double wishbone front suspension, staggered 20- and 21-inch centre-lock wheels, and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes as standard. The result, according to Porsche, is an open-top GT model capable of delivering comparable dynamic precision to its fixed-roof counterpart.
Inside, the S/C remains focused on weight reduction and simplicity. It is configured strictly as a two-seater, with lightweight trim, carbonfibre elements and a pared-back ‘Track Screen’ display mode that prioritises essential driving data. As with other recent GT models, the ignition is operated via a rotary switch rather than a button.

An optional ‘Street Style’ package adds contrasting exterior graphics and a more striking interior finish, though the core appeal of the S/C lies in its relatively restrained, driver-focused specification.
Unlike the 911 Speedster, the GT3 S/C is not limited in production, suggesting Porsche sees it as a more permanent addition to the range. UK pricing starts at £200,500.
