A one-off 1959 Maserati 3500 GT Bertone Coupe was crowned as the Best of Show winner at the 2024 Audrain Newport Concours d’Elegance last weekend, where some of the finest classics from around the world battled for the affection of the judges on the lawn of The Breakers Mansion.
The Maserati, designed by Franco Scaglione and bodied by Bertone, was originally shown at the 1959 Turin Motor Show. Trained in the science of aerodynamics, Scaglione’s styling features many visual clues to his expertise. After a painstaking nine-year restoration, the car was returned to its original condition and showed once again at the 2023 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The 1958 Devin SS SR2-6 roadster, owned by Kevin Callahan, captured the People’s Choice award, further highlighting the quality and diversity of the vehicles on display at the event.
‘Once again we left everyone who attended inspired and in awe of the timeless elegance and enduring legacy of these magnificent vehicles, both four-and two-wheeled,’ said Audrain CEO Donald Osborne. ‘Our event not only celebrates the beauty and innovation of historic vehicles but also serves as a reminder of the rich heritage and cultural significance of the automotive industry, bridging the past with the present. And our Best of Show winner wonderfully captures our theme of History, Luxury & Sport in one vehicle.’
The annual Audrain Newport Concours & Motor Week celebrates the diversity, elegance, and timelessness of both classic and modern vehicles. A week’s worth of incredible car showcases, luxurious gatherings, and engaging seminars all lead up to this grand finale: the Concours d’Elegance.
With 70 judges from four countries and 184 cars from across the USA and Europe, this year’s event was one to remember. Special awards included the ‘Most Elegant’ title for Don Ghareeb’s 1932 Duesenberg Model J, while the ‘Chairman’s Award’ went to Santo Spadaro for his 1953 PBX H Modified.
The 2025 Audrain Newport Concours d’Elegance will take place on 5 October, as part of Motor Week, beginning on 2 October.
