Mecum’s mammoth 730-car collector car auction in Houston, Texas from 4-6 April raised a bumper $29.4 million at a sell-through rate of over 71%.
Top-seller at an auction where the resultes were dominated by modern classics was a 2008 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster at just over $350,000, but Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170s dominated the results, taking five of the top ten spots.
A surprise in third place was a 2014 ASVE Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing replica which topped $200,000. Powered by a 5.7-litre V8 and driving through a T56 six speed manual box, it cost $300,000 to build, rides on 17in rims and has a glassfibre body over a tubular frame.
