The I.C.E. St. Moritz 2025 – short for International Concours of Elegance – once again transformed the Swiss frozen lake into a low-temperature, highly picturesque circuit over the weekend of 21-22 February. With a carefully curated selection of 52 classic and sports cars, wearing snow chains or studded tyres, this unique showcase of automotive history was watched by over 20,000 spectators from around the world – the best attended in the event’s history.
The event opened on Friday with the prestigious concours d’elegance, where an expert jury assessed the participating cars on elegance, rarity, and historical significance. The winners of the five concours categories were:
• Barchettas on the Lake: Ferrari 500 TRC Scaglietti (1957)
• Open Wheels: Bugatti Type 59 (1934)
• Concept Cars & One-Offs: Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS Aprile (1931)
• Icons on Wheels: Ferrari 275 GTB/4 (1966)
• Racing Legends: Porsche 908/03 (1971)
Saturday saw the much-anticipated free laps, offering the public the rare spectacle of these exceptional vehicles in motion on the ice, against the dramatic alpine backdrop. The highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of the Best in Show award, designed by Lord Norman Foster, which was awarded to the Bugatti Type 59. The Spirit of St. Moritz award, designed by artist Rolf Sachs, went to the Ferrari 250 GT SWB ‘Sefac’ (1961), while the public’s favourite, Hero Below Zero, was the Lamborghini Miura SV (1972).
Beyond the concours, the event extended into the city with a programme of cultural and artistic events. Since its inception in 2019 by Marco Makaus, The I.C.E. has redefined the concours format by merging static displays with dynamic on-ice driving demonstrations, all within the spectacular setting of the Engadin Valley. The event continues to respect and preserve the natural environment of the region, ensuring a delicate balance between automotive passion and ecological responsibility.
