The 1972 Mercedes-Benz W114 250 formerly owned by Paul Weller – the former frontman of English rock band The Jam – is heading for the auction block this November.

Weller – popularly known as ‘The Modfather’ – received the Mercedes in 1996 as a birthday gift from his father and manager, John. He kept it until 2014, during which time it doubled as the family’s school-run car. Several songs are said to have been penned in it, including Driving Nowhere, Heavy Soul and All on a Misty Morning.

The Mercedes next passed to Andy Ash of Andy’s Autobarn in Ashford, before finding its way to the present owner after a chance meeting. A devoted Weller fan, the vendor commissioned a year-long restoration completed in 2018.

Soon after, Weller’s manager Charles Rees invited him to bring the car to the singer’s Black Barn Studio in Surrey, where Weller signed the centre console.

Since then, the W114 has appeared at exhibitions and been used for ‘Tufty Tours’ – charitable drives that take fans of The Jam to landmarks from Weller’s life and career.

The next chapter of the vehicle’s life will begin when it crosses the block in Iconic Auctioneers’ Collectors Car Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show on Saturday 8 November, 2025. It is expected to fetch between £40,000 and £50,000 and is being offered with 80,743 miles on the clock.

‘Cars with genuine cultural provenance are rare,’ said Iconic Auctioneers managing director and principal auctioneer Rob Hubbard. ‘This W114 links music and motoring in a way that speaks to enthusiasts and fans alike.’
