Ferrari retrofit kit reintroduces physical steering wheel buttons

Ferrari is offering a steering wheel button retrofit kit that replaces the touch-sensitive haptic controls found on some of its most recent models.

The move was first reported by Motor1, which highlighted the kit being advertised by Ferrari of Atlanta on Instagram for the Ferrari Purosangue and Ferrari 12Cilindri. Its introduction follows sustained criticism from customers and the media regarding the usability of the haptic system that debuted on cars such as the Ferrari SF90 Stradale.

Ferrari has not presented the retrofit as a reversal, but the decision underlines a broader shift in the brand’s interior ergonomics strategy. It follows the reintroduction of physical buttons in newer models, including the Ferrari F80 and Ferrari 849 Testarossa.

The kit replaces the steering wheel’s central touch-sensitive control module with a layout incorporating traditional buttons, rather than requiring a full steering wheel replacement. Installation and calibration are expected to be carried out by official Ferrari dealers.

Further details, including pricing and full model compatibility beyond the Purosangue and 12Cilindri, are yet to be confirmed. However, it seems likely the kit will also be offered for models such as the Ferrari 296 GTB, Ferrari Roma and SF90 Stradale.

A retrofit programme of this nature is unusual for Ferrari, a marque that has historically been reluctant to revisit production decisions once cars reach customers, despite strong demand in areas such as manual transmissions.

The retrofit kit is available in the UK and has been advertised by Graypaul and JCT600 Ferrari dealers.
