German motorsport engineering firm HWA has announced a limited, track-only version of its carbon-bodied tribute to the Mercedes-Benz 190E Evo II. Called the HWA EVO R, just 15 examples will be built – an announcement timed to coincide with this weekend’s 24 Hours of Nürburgring, where three HWA EVO.R race cars will contest the SP-X class.
Based on the EVO.R race car, the track machine has been developed with accessible handling in mind. The front-mid-engined, transaxle layout is complemented by six-way adjustable racing suspension developed in partnership with KW and H&R, with AP Racing competition brakes providing the stopping power.
Under the bonnet lies an HWA-developed 3.0-litre biturbo V6 producing around 550bhp and 500lb ft of torque, sent to the rear axle via a six-speed sequential transmission. The EVO R shares the road car’s full carbonfibre bodywork, supplemented by a motorsport kit comprising widened arches, reshaped bonnet, NACA air intakes, polycarbonate windows, removable rear doors and bespoke RONAL racing wheels.

Inside, the driver sits in a full carbonfibre racing seat with a moveable pedal box for an optimal driving position. Safety equipment includes an FIA-homologated roll cage and fuel cell, while options extend to a drinks system, passenger seat, air conditioning and a 24-hour lighting package.
Each HWA EVO R is produced to order and backed by a turn-key customer support programme, giving owners access to expert technicians, a dedicated parts service and invitations to exclusive events throughout their ownership. Option packages include a Langstreckenpaket endurance package, a Starter Kit and an Electronic Kit.
Pricing has not been announced.
