Led Zeppelin drummer’s Jensen Interceptor offered with £40,000 estimate

A 1972 Jensen Interceptor III formerly owned by Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham is heading to market in Iconic Auctioneers’ Iconic Sale at the BRDC Classic at Silverstone on 25 July, 2026. It’s expected to achieve between £40,000 and £50,000 despite being treated to a three-year, £83,000 rebuild.

First registered on 18 March 1972 to John Bonham Enterprises Ltd, the right-hand drive Interceptor III is an H-series model powered by the 6.3-litre Chrysler V8 paired to a TorqueFlite automatic transmission. The Led Zeppelin drummer’s ownership is said to be well documented in the accompanying history file.

The current owner acquired the car in barn find condition and commissioned the comprehensive rebuild and restoration. Taking place between 2020 and 2023, the project was undertaken by marque specialists Martin Robey, Prestige Panels and Riverbourne Classics. Now presenting in its original Reef Blue paintwork over crimson upholstery, the car is accompanied by invoices exceeding £83,000.

The sale follows Iconic’s recent sales of collector cars associated with rock ‘n’ roll royalty. At the auctioneer’s Supercar Fest sale in May, a Ferrari F430 Spider previously owned by Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi sold for £65,250, while a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS that belonged to Chris Rea made £96,750.

The Jensen Interceptor is widely regarded as one of Britain’s finest classic grand tourers, combining Italian styling with American V8 muscle and English craftsmanship. Introduced in 1971, the third-generation car introduced a fresh grille, new headlights and bumpers, standard-fitment air-conditioning and 15-inch GKN alloy wheels.

‘This is a wonderful example of why provenance matters so much in the classic car market,’ said Iconic Auctioneers car specialist Harry Whale. ‘The Interceptor is already a hugely characterful British GT, but John Bonham’s ownership gives the car an added cultural significance… it is a tempting proposition for both marque enthusiasts and collectors of music-related motor cars.’
