Mythical Porsche 917 013/034 to appear at inaugural Concours des Légendes in June

Porsche 917 chassis 013/034 – one of the most historically significant examples in existence – will appear at the inaugural Concours des Légendes at Wilton House on 19-21 June, 2026.

Owned by Porsche Club GB member Mark Finburgh and his brother Aubrey, chassis 013/034 ran in Gulf colours for the JW Automotive team in 1970, before being used in the production of Steve McQueen’s Le Mans.

It was then raced by Mexican Formula 1 driver Pedro Rodríguez in 1971, claiming wins at Daytona, Monza and Spa. Rodríguez died shortly afterwards, following a crash in the 1971 Interserie SportsCar race at the Norisring in West Germany.

Adding further to the car’s extraordinary provenance, it was involved in a serious accident during Le Mans filming with British racing driver David Piper at the wheel.

The incident resulted in the loss of Piper’s right leg from the knee down. After being rebuilt and returning to period competition, the car came to the Finburghs in 1973 when Mark spotted a flash of orange and blue poking through the snow in Porsche’s factory yard – a purchase that saved it from being scrapped. The brothers later discovered it was one of only three lightweight 917s ever built.

Now one of five Porsches in the Finburgh family collection, 013/034 has been a regular at the Goodwood Festival of Speed – most memorably when 1970 Le Mans winner Richard Attwood drove it sideways through the rain to the fastest time of the weekend.

Its appearance at Wilton House this June will mark a rare opportunity to see one of motorsport’s most storied machines in the metal. Tickets for the Concours des Légendes are available here.
