London to Brighton Veteran Car Run

Driving between London and Brighton in cars well over a hundred years old couldn’t be considered easy at the best of times, and hosting the event in November – on the 1st, this year – means competitors and their passengers in the past have had to deal with everything from freezing temperatures to torrential rain. It’s all part of the fun, and the sense of accomplishment always outweighs hardships on the journey itself – and for just a day, lets everyone experience what driving at the dawn of motoring might have been like. There’s real variety to the pre-1905 vehicles and whether you choose to watch the start, the end, or somewhere in the middle, it’s enjoyable as a spectator too – not least for the similarly varied smells, as petrol and steam vehicles alike tackle the trip. Early-bird registration for participants is now open; entry fees start at £250 for three-wheelers and £485 for four-wheeled cars, while spectating is free.
