$11m Pagani Zonda leads RM Sotheby’s 2024 Dubai auction

It’s hard to argue against the opinion that the Pagani Zonda is one of the most legendary supercars of the last 25 years – and it would appear that the market agrees. In Dubai, at RM Sotheby’s final auction of 2024, a Zonda (admittedly a very special LM Roadster) broke all previous marque records as it crossed the auction block with a final auction price of $11,086,250. RM’s sale, held at the Emirates Golf Club in partnership with the Mille Miglia Experience UAE, raised total sales of $27.9 million with a 71% sell-through rate.

The utterly unique 2014 Pagani Zonda LM Roadster lived up to its billing, and then some, smashing expectations. This one-off example was produced by Pagani to the exacting specifications of its consigning owner, including stunning clear lacquered bare-carbon bodywork. As the name suggests, it was inspired by the Le Mans sport prototypes, and contains 60 unique components – including its Zonda Revolución-inspired rear wing and a Tricolore exhaust outlet.

This car set the tone for the auction, which was much more focused on modern supercars than more traditional classics. This was not the only Pagani to attract significant bidding either. Next up was the 2017 Pagani Huayra BC Coupé, of which 20 were built. This one did benefit from ‘Pacchetto Tempesta’ upgrades. This one raised $4,336,250, another record.

We’re now starting to see the odd Aston Martin Valkyrie filter into the auction market, and this was hammered away at $2,648,750. This was followed by a A 2017 Lamborghini Centenario LP770-4 Roadster, showing just 109 kilometers on the odometer, which sold for $2,030,000. Meanwhile, a Papaya Orange 2019 McLaren Senna LM, one of just 20 examples, achieved $1,467,500, slightly ahead of the 2014 McLaren P1 at $1,186,250.

Other highlights included a 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series Coupé, which exceeded its high estimate to achieve $820,625, while a 2002 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG V12 – once part of Dubai’s royal family’s fleet – set a record at $398,750.

Peter Wallman, RM Sotheby’s Chairman for EMEA, reflected on the evening’s success: ‘Breaking four world records in one auction is a testament to the strength of the Dubai market and RM Sotheby’s growing presence in the Middle East. This is a region with a rich car culture and a passion for automotive excellence, and we’re excited to continue being part of it.’
