ECD Automotive Design reimagines the V12-engined Jaguar E-type

Words: Matthew Hayward

ECD Automotive Design has unveiled a new Jaguar E-type restomod, which it calls the GTO. Built for a private client under the name ‘Bridgewater Commission’, this car combines various parts from the E-type’s three series, as well as some small details from the D-type, meshing them with modern mechanical upgrades and a highly-tuned 400bhp V12 engine.

Conceived as what it calls a reimagining, the Florida-based outfit best known for its high-end Land Rover builds describes the project as a synthesis of Jaguar’s design evolution: combining Series I bodywork, a Series II structure, and Series III power. The E-type GTO starts with an aluminium body that was shaped in Coventry, inspired by the long-nose Series I E-type with some D-type-style detailing – including functional bonnet louvres, a deep front valance, bullet-style mirrors and a tapering tail.

The custom body actually sits on a Series II chassis, fitted with a modified cradle and axle system to accommodate the upgraded drivetrain. Power comes from a rebuilt Jaguar V12 prepared by Team CJ of Austin, Texas – a specialist with deep knowledge of Jaguar engines. The engine is mated to a bespoke fuel injection system, upgraded cooling and a centre-exit twin-pipe exhaust, delivering in excess of 400bhp. Ride height and damping are fully adjustable, while braking is provided by six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers.

Inside, the cockpit is trimmed with a mix of leather, wood and discreet modern comforts. Custom GTS Classic Car Seats are upholstered in hand-stitched Spinneybeck Lucente Hercules leather with vertical fluting. The brushed aluminium dashboard houses Moal Bomber gauges and traditional toggle switches. A retro-look Bluetooth radio, heated seats, USB charging ports and automatic lighting are integrated hidden from view. A custom removable hardtop offers the choice of open or enclosed motoring.

As this is a custom commission, pricing info has not been revealed, howeverECD does offer less extreme restomod E-types from $299,000. Find out more, and play with the configurator at ecdautodesign.com
