Ferrari 410 Superamerica and 166 MM take top honours at 35th Palm Beach Cavallino Classic

A 1956 Ferrari 410 Superamerica Series I and a 1948 Ferrari 166 MM Berlinetta were crowned Best of Show at the 35th anniversary edition of the Palm Beach Cavallino Classic, held from 13-16 February at Florida’s Boca Raton resort for the first time.

Around 300 Ferraris descended on The Boca Raton for the event, with 150 curated for the Concorso d’Eleganza contest. The 410 Superamerica (chassis #0475 SA) claimed the Best of Show Gran Turismo prize, while the 166 MM Berlinetta (chassis #02C/020 I) was awarded the Best of Show Competition prize.

Finished in Oro Chiaro Metallizzato and wearing shapely Pinin Farina coachwork, the 410 Superamerica was one of the stand-out models positioned on the resort’s 18th fairway and appeared at the 2025 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The 166 MM, meanwhile, carries the esteem of being only the second Ferrari ever built. Originally commissioned as a Tipo 125, the MM received the larger Tipo 166 engine in 1948 before being fitted with Touring-designed Berlinetta bodywork one year later.

The 35th anniversary milestone saw organisers put on one of the most ambitious events in Cavallino Classic history. Complementing this year’s winners was the all-new Legacy Class, which saw the return of 15 Best of Show recipients. The event’s move to Boca Raton from its previous home at The Breakers coincided with a new marque-specific auction by RM Sotheby’s.

Fittingly, the Legacy Class took a starring role on the concours field. The 15-car selection charted the past three-and-a-half decades of Cavallino history. Among the highlights were a 1955 500 Mondial Series II (Best of Show 2009), a 1956 250 GT Berlinetta LWB Zagato (Best of Show 2018), and the one-of-a-kind 1952 212 Inter by Ghia (Best of Show Gran Turismo 2024).

Saturday’s Concorso d’Eleganza brought together a smorgasbord of historically significant Ferraris, from early competition machines to modern V12-powered Icona models. Beyond the Legacy Class, standout entries included David MacNeil’s Tour de France-winning 1962 250 GTO, a freshly restored 1972 365 GTC4 that won its class, and two bespoke Special Projects commissions: the 2013 SP30 and 2025 SC40.

Among the competition cars, a 1967 412 P in Ecurie Francorchamps livery secured the Honorary Judges Award and Finest Ferrari Classiche Certified accolades. It was also one of 80 models to receive a Platinum Award for being awarded 97 points or more by the judging panel.

Around 160 Ferraris – predominantly post-1990s examples – participated in Friday’s Tour d’Eleganza through South Florida. This was followed by the evening’s Party Under the Stars at The Boca Raton, coinciding with the official US unveiling of the 849 Testarossa.

RM Sotheby’s inaugural Cavallino Palm Beach auction was held during the Cavallino Night gala dinner on Saturday night. Curated specifically for the Cavallino audience, the sale comprised 11 Ferrari Classiche-certified machines, as well as six automobilia lots.

Headline results included a 2015 LaFerrari at $5.23m, a 1964 500 Superfast Series I at $1.54m and a 1955 250 Europa GT Coupé at $1.46m. A 2009 F430 Scuderia Spider 16M exceeded its $1m high estimate, selling for $1.10m.

Beyond the cars, a signed collector’s edition of 275 by Bacchelli and Villa realised $19,200, with proceeds benefitting the Cavallino Classic Foundation.

The weekend concluded with Classic and Sports Sunday at the Mar-a-Lago Club, which saw a final display of the concours cars complemented by a small selection of non-Ferraris.

‘Thirty-five years ago, Cavallino was born from a simple yet powerful idea: to honour Ferrari not just as an automobile but as an expression of art, engineering and human emotion,’ said Cavallino chairman and CEO Luigi Orlandini. ‘That spirit continues to guide us today in this new venue, featuring a record number of exceptional automobiles, distinguished collectors and true enthusiasts.’
