Gooding Christie’s returned to the Omni Amelia Island Resort on 5-6 March for its 16th annual Amelia Island Auctions, generating more than $71m in total sales and achieving a strong 94% sell-through rate from 124 lots sold.

Leading the two-day sale was a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider, which achieved $16,505,000, making it not only the auction house’s top result of the week but also the highest-selling car across all Florida auction houses during Amelia Island’s busy auction period.

Roberto Rossellini’s first Ferrari – a 1951 Ferrari 212 Export Spider – sold for $3,415,000, while a 1955 Ferrari 750 Monza achieved $3,085,000 and a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 brought $3,030,000. A 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso also joined the million-dollar ranks at $1,765,000. The eye-catching ‘barn-find’ Ferrari 342 America – previewed here – sold for $533,000.

Several notable auction records were established during the sale. A 1932 Miller FWD Special, offered from the Price Museum of Speed, achieved $3,305,000 – setting a new marque record by a substantial margin. A 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400 S also established a new benchmark for the model at $2,590,000.

A 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS achieved $1,325,000, setting a new auction record for the model, while a 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500E reached $357,000 – more than triple the previous publicly recorded auction result for the Porsche-built super saloon. Among other notable results, a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT from the Curtis Leaverton Collection sold for $3,112,500, comfortably exceeding its pre-sale estimate.

Gooding Christie’s President David Gooding said: ‘Amelia Island always proves to be an incredibly successful venue for us, and this year, with our second highest sales total recorded in our 16 years at the venue, as well as a 94% sell-through rate, was no exception. In addition to selling the most valuable car of Florida auction week, our team set notable world records for a diverse range of marques and models, from one of the most original and historic Millers to an early ’90s Mercedes-Benz 500E high-performance sedan.’
