FuoriConcorso 2025: a stunning celebration of Italian racing heritage

FuoriConcorso returned to Lake Como on 25-26 May 2025 with the theme ‘Velocissimo’, celebrating the aesthetic and emotional power of speed, with a particular eye on Italy’s motorsport heritage. Running since 2019, this relative newcomer to the concours circuit takes place against the stunning backdrop of Villa del Grumello and Villa Sucota, just down the road from Villa d’Este.

Few displays better embodied the spirit of the event than the Lancia D24 and LC1 Martini Racing – bookends to an Italian racing legacy that stretched from the Mille Miglia to Group C. This was an event that celebrated Italian racing heritage in spectacular style, mashing together rcompetition cars from all eras in a beautiful location. Maserati racers included the 420M/58 Eldorado and the MC12 GT1 (above). Ferrari’s presence spanned decades of sporting triumphs, from the 166MM ‘Uovo’ to the 499P Le Mans winner – and even a 250 GTO (below).

On the Formula 1 lawn, Alfa Romeo’s Tipo 159 – Fangio’s title-winner from 1951 – stood beside the Maserati 250F and ex-Schumacher F248, a powerful statement of Italy’s central role in the sport’s development.

Rallying’s raw drama was captured in a small but formidable collection: the Lancia Stratos Alitalia, complete with Monte Carlo-winning credentials, and the Delta S4 from the Gino Macaluso Foundation.

Alfa Romeo commanded attention with a remarkable exhibition at Casa Alfa Romeo in Villa Sucota. Framed by Lake Como’s terraced gardens, the marque assembled a lineage of competition greats that included the 1930 6C 1750 Gran Sport, 1965 Giulia TZ2, 1975 33 TT 12 and the title-winning 1951 GP Tipo 159 ‘Alfetta’. The centrepiece was the new 33 Stradale.

Beyond the Italian focus, manufacturers from other nations brought their own chapters of racing lore. Mercedes-Benz delivered a Silver Arrow showcase, from the dominating C11 Group C car to the CLK-GTR and its ultimate evolution, the CLK-LM.

Koenigsegg brought some Nordic flair to FuoriConcorso with an ensemble ranging from the early CCX to the CC850.

Other new car showcases included Pagani’s Imola – a 827bhp, V12-powered track weapon – as well as Maserati’s road-legal GT2 Stradale and the track-only MCXtrema. Marc Philipp Gemballa’s Marsien, a contemporary reinterpretation of the Porsche 911 Safari was also a particular highlight.
