Gianni Agnelli family cars offered by RM Sotheby’s

A trio of cars once owned by Gianni Agnelli is set to go under the hammer with RM Sotheby’s, offering collectors a rare opportunity to acquire machines tied to one of Italy’s most charismatic industrialists. Known as ‘L’Avvocato’, Agnelli was more than just the head of Fiat – he was a global style icon, a powerbroker, and a man with a singular taste in cars. Whether in his position as the wealthiest man in modern Italian history or as a tastemaker shaping global menswear, Agnelli’s flair extended effortlessly to his cars.

1974 Fiat 130 Familiare

The most recognisable of the three is the 1974 Fiat 130 Familiare, estimated at €170,000-€300,000. Commissioned specially for Agnelli, it was the first of three such estate versions of the Fiat 130, all built by Officina Introzzi. Clad in silver with faux wood panelling, a wicker basket-topped roof rack and an off-centre third brake light for his security detail, the car was regularly used at Agnelli’s winter home in St. Moritz and retained for over a decade. Its unique appearance, combined with its provenance, has made it one of the most recognisable of all Agnelli’s vehicles.

1986 Fiat Panda 4×4

Joining it is a 1986 Fiat Panda 4×4, offered with an estimate of €20,000-€40,000. Purchased new by Agnelli and kept in his ownership for 15 years, the car has recently undergone a meticulous restoration to its original specification. Like the 130, it served time in St. Moritz and was well used by Agnelli before passing through a series of private owners. Described as ‘arguably the finest Panda 4×4 in existence’.

1985 Lancia Thema Familiare by Zagato

Rounding out the collection is a 1985 Lancia Thema Familiare by Zagato, one of only two prototypes built. With its subtle estate bodywork penned by Zagato – ever so slightly different to the Pininfarina-built production car – it was delivered new to Agnelli and used for two years. Still showing fewer than 93,000km and estimated at €80,000–€160,000, it remains a fascinating design study.

Each is offered without reserve, with bidding beginning on 20 April. visit rmsothebys.com for more info
