The Nationales Automuseum The Loh Collection has opened a major new rally-themed exhibition, bringing together 35 historically significant competition cars spanning almost a century. Titled ‘Rallye Legends – A Time Journey on Asphalt, Gravel and Snow’, the exhibition traces rallying’s development from pre-war Monte Carlo entrants through Group B machinery.

Held at the museum’s Dietzhölztal-Ewersbach site in Germany, the exhibition places particular emphasis on rallying’s technical evolution and the personalities behind its success. Group 4 cars on display include the Lancia Stratos, Opel Ascona 400 and an early Audi quattro, while the Group B era will be represented by the Peugeot 205 T16, Ford RS200, Audi Sport quattro S1 and Lancia Delta S4.

The exhibition also broadens its focus beyond traditional stage rallying, with Dakar machinery and Pikes Peak record holders. Drivers represented include Walter Röhrl, Hannu Mikkola, Michèle Mouton, Ari Vatanen, Juha Kankkunen, Didier Auriol, Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier.

Alongside the exhibition, the museum will publish a new companion book, written by motorsport historian Jörg Walz and featuring a foreword by Röhrl’s co-driver Christian Geistdörfer, the publication expands on the stories behind the cars and the wider development of rallying.

Since opening in 2023, the Nationales Automuseum has quickly established itself as one of Europe’s more ambitious automotive museums, housing around 160 vehicles across 7500 square metres on a former industrial site. The Loh Collection spans everything from early Grand Prix cars and Le Mans winners to prototypes and modern supercars, with the museum attracting more than 230,000 visitors to date.
