The 1992 Benetton B192-05 Formula 1 car that seven-time World Champion Michael Schumacher piloted to victory at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix is heading for the auction block in Broad Arrow’s Global Icons: Europe Online sale. It is expected to fetch upwards of €8.5m.
Schumacher’s 1991 Belgium triumph was the first of 91 victories the German secured over the course of his legendary career and also marked the final win for a car equipped with a manual transmission.

Schumacher exploded onto the F1 scene at the same venue one year earlier as a stand-in for Bertrand Gachot at the Jordan team. Here, he demonstrated his generational talent by qualifying in seventh place – despite having no prior experience of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
This led to Schumacher being immediately snapped up by Flavio Briatore’s Benetton outfit, with whom he won two World Championships before heading to Scuderia Ferrari for the 1996 season.

A key figure in Schumacher’s record-breaking career was Rory Byrne, who designed the B192 as well as the German’s seven Championship-winning machines.
Driven exclusively by Schumacher, B192-05 was used in five Grands Prix across the 1991 season. Aside from victory in Belgium, the chassis also recorded a second-place finish in Canada as well as four top-five qualifying efforts.

After retiring from period competition, B192-05 was put into storage in the team’s Enstone headquarters. The chassis was then acquired by Renault following the French manufacturer’s purchase of the Enstone-based team in 2000.
Following Renault’s takeover, Schumacher’s race-winning car joined the marque’s Classic Department collection, before being sold in 2015 to Laurent Redon’s LRS Formula outfit. Redon then restored B192-05 before selling it to the consignor in 2016.

‘We cannot overstate how honoured we are to be able to publicly offer, for the first time ever, the Benetton B192-05 that first put Michael Schumacher on the top step of the F1 podium,’ said Broad Arrow car specialist Yves Boitel of the sale. ‘We expect its presentation in our Global Icons: Europe Online sale to attract significant interest from top collectors around the world.’
The sale is set to take place from 23-20 January, 2026. Click here for more.
