Burns’ title-winning Subaru to star at Classic Nostalgia

Classic Nostalgia will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Richard Burns’ WRC title by bringing the Englishman’s championship-winning Subaru Impreza WRC – X20 SRT – to Worcestershire’s Shelsley Walsh on 18-19 July.

X20 SRT will headline a gathering of Burns’ competition cars at the world’s oldest motorsport venue, whose custodian the Midland Automobile Club marks its 125th anniversary this year. They’ll be joined by former Prodrive team members, along with Burns’ friends and family, for what promises to be an emotional tribute to the UK’s last homegrown WRC champion.

The tribute to Burns – who died of a brain tumour in 2005, aged just 34 – will include demonstration runs up the famous 1000-yard course and an exclusive Q&A session recalling that 2001 season. Guests include Burns’ co-driver Robert Reid, now deputy president for sport at the FIA.

Legendary Prodrive engineer David Lapworth will demonstrate the Safari Rally-winning Impreza, and visitors can enter a daily raffle for the chance to ride alongside him, in aid of the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

The Burns celebration headlines a Ralli22 showcase of Group B, Group A and WRC machinery, part of a weekend spanning more than 100 years of motorsport. Michael Schumacher’s Benetton B192 leads the F1 contingent, joined by NASCAR, Can-Am and F5000 machinery, a Bonneville record-breaking Jensen and a field of historic saloons.

Away from the action, the new-for-2026 Historic Racing News Live Stage hosts interviews and autograph sessions with the likes of Richard Attwood, John Fitzpatrick and Mike Wilds, while the Classic & Sports Car Concours adds a touch of motoring elegance. More than 20 car clubs will be in attendance, with Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypasts on both days.

Advance tickets cost £27 (£35 on the gate), with children aged 5-15 £5. For tickets and more information, visit www.classicnostalgia.co.uk.
