One-of-16 Porsche 924 SCCA D-Production racer is up for grabs

This rare 1980 Porsche 924 SCCA D-Production racer could fetch $200,000 when it crosses the block in Broad Arrow’s Air|Water sale on 25 April 2026.

One of just 16 examples, this factory-built race car is effectively a silhouette racer, built from the ground up for SCCA competition under Porsche’s Type 933 programme rather than adapted from the road-spec 924.

Extensive weight-saving measures and myriad competition-spec components complement a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, fitted with Bosch/Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection and an 11.5:1 compression ratio. Power flows through a five-speed manual transaxle and an 80 percent locking limited-slip differential to the rear wheels, producing around 180bhp.

Lightweight body panels, flared arches and a moulded front spoiler echo the car’s race-focused engineering, while suspension geometry, rear springs and wheel bearings were reinforced for circuit use and Turbo-derived disc brakes ensure stopping power. The same uncompromising ethos continues inside the stripped-out cockpit, with a welded roll cage, single Porsche 935 ‘lollipop’ seat, pared-back instrumentation and a central electrical cut-off.

This particular example, chassis 90015, never saw SCCA competition and remained in its original, factory-supplied ‘new-in-the-box’ state for decades. It passed through a handful of U.S. owners before arriving at Freisinger-Motorsport in Karlsruhe, Germany, where it was meticulously assembled to period specification in 2013, complete with the white-and-red livery featured on the cover of the December 1979 issue of Porsche’s Christophorus magazine.

After leaving Freisinger’s ownership in 2019, it was acquired by a collector known for commissioning rare one-off Porsches through the marque’s Sonderwunsch programme. Now offered with a $150,000–$200,000 pre-sale estimate, the car has yet to run a racing lap. Perhaps that will change with its next owner.
