Final Saab factory cars head to auction in Trollhättan

The final few Saabs remaining at the former Trollhättan factory site are set to be sold at auction later this month, bringing a symbolic close to this much-loved automotive marque’s story. Seven vehicles – including some of the last Saab 9-3s built, alongside experimental Nevs development cars – will go under the hammer through Klaravik, with bidding ending during a public event at the factory on 30 May.

The sale marks the final departure of Saab-badged cars from the site where the company’s first production model, the Saab 92, emerged in December 1949. Among the most significant lots are three 2014 Saab 9-3 Aero pre-production cars with low chassis numbers. These petrol-powered examples are among the very last Saabs assembled before production finally ceased under Nevs ownership.

Nevs – National Electric Vehicle Sweden – acquired Saab’s assets in 2012 following bankruptcy, initially attempting to restart production of the 9-3 before pivoting towards electric and autonomous vehicle development. Although the company never succeeded in reviving Saab as a production brand, Trollhättan remained active as an engineering and development centre for several years afterwards.

That later chapter is reflected in the remaining prototypes heading to auction, including an electric Nevs 9-3 developed in Trollhättan and built in China, an autonomous-driving prototype equipped with lidar and camera systems and an experimental all-wheel-drive car using in-wheel electric motors.

All seven cars will be offered without reserve through Klaravik, with bidding beginning on 21 May. For more information on the sale, see klaravik.se
