Broad Arrow Auctions will return to Southern California on 26 April for its second dedicated Porsche auction in partnership with the Air|Water event. Taking place at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa, the single-day sale is set to feature more than 50 lots, with a centrepiece consignment that’s already turning heads: a 1989 RUF CTR Yellowbird.
It’s not long since Gooding & Company sold a very similar Yellowbird for $6 million in Amelia Island, and this example is very similar in specification. One of just 29 W09-designated Group C Turbo cars built by RUF, chassis W09BT0348KPR06023 is the only known example fitted with a special lightweight interior and remains a fully matching-numbers car.

Powered by a twin-turbo 3.4-litre flat-six producing 469bhp and paired with RUF’s bespoke six-speed manual gearbox, the CTR was famously recorded at a top speed of 213mph – making it the fastest production car in the world at the time. Its Nürburgring heroics with test driver Stefan Roser only added to its legend. Factory-certified by RUF with a ‘Zertifikat’ issued in 2016, this car is estimated at $4.5m-5.5m.
‘The RUF CTR represents the pinnacle of rear-engined supercars,’ said Alexander Weaver, VP of Private Sales at Broad Arrow. ‘It is the ultimate expression of RUF’s engineering genius and stands today as a landmark collectible.’
