Ferraris dominate as Zoute auctions deliver €41m across Bonhams and Broad Arrow

Words: Matthew Hayward

The twin auctions at the Zoute Grand Prix once again confirmed the Belgian event’s growing importance on the European classic car calendar, with Bonhams and Broad Arrow collectively generating more than €41m in sales over three days. While Broad Arrow’s inaugural Zoute sale led the way with €26.3m and a 78% sell-through, Bonhams put in a decent €15.5m total and a strong 87.5% sale rate.

At Broad Arrow, Ferrari provided the headline act as a 1967 275 GTB/4 in Verde Pino – an exceptionally original, matching-numbers example – achieved €3,015,625. Other highlights included Daniel Ricciardo’s 2023 Aston Martin Valkyrie, which sold for €2,284,375, and the 1998 Lamborghini Pregunta concept car, a one-off prototype from the marque’s pre-Audi era, which fetched €2,143,750.

Broad Arrow’s top ten was rounded off by a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse (€1.86m), Bugatti EB110 GT (€1.58m), and Porsche Carrera GT (€1.35m), alongside a €827,500 Ferrari Daytona Competizione, illustrating continued demand for high-end modern classics and 2000s supercars. The sale also saw strong results for a 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition (€512,500) and a Frazer Nash TT Replica (€264,500), reinforcing the broad cross-generational appeal of the Zoute event.

Just two days later, Bonhams returned to its elegant beachfront venue for its 13th Zoute Sale, achieving €15.5m with several Ferraris again leading proceedings. A 1991 Ferrari F40 topped the sale at €2,645,000, while the 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso from the Bernard Fornas Collection achieved €1,380,000. The Fornas cars alone contributed more than €2.2m, underscoring the market’s appetite for well-presented, long-held private collections.

Among other notable results were a 1969 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’ (€603,750), a 2021 Ford GT ‘66 Heritage Edition (€598,000), and a 1967 Aston Martin DB6 Volante (€402,500). Classic SUVs and period curiosities also drew attention, including Alain Delon’s 1976 Range Rover 3.5-litre (€120,750) and a Toyota Land Cruiser BJ43 used in the inaugural Paris-Dakar Rally (€115,000).

While RM Sotheby’s Zurich sale dominated headlines with its record CHF70m ‘Tailored for Speed’ total, the Belgian results showed some strength continues to build at the upper end of the European market – albeit with buyers becoming more selective.
